Part 8: Peregrine’s History

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Peregrine’s co-founder and CTO Ron Reedy gave the following presentation at a San Diego IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) event in October 2013. In this video, which is part 8 of his talk, “Commercializing Silicon on Sapphire (SOS) & Changing an Industry,” Reedy plots Peregrine’s timeline of progress. It took the company five years to deliver its first 100 chips. By the end of the next five years, the number of chips shipped grew to 1 million, and two years after that, Peregrine shipped its 2 billionth chip. This progress evidences that Peregrine has maintained its entrepreneurial spirit even after it went public. Highlights include:

  • 1990: Peregrine Semiconductor opens its doors.
  • 1999: Peregrine’s technology has visited every planet except Uranus, mostly because the U.S. hadn’t yet sent a space probe there.
  • 2000: Peregrine ships a million integrated switches.
  • 2004: Peregrine begins shipping into the global handsets market with a switch for GSM phones.
  • 2005: Peregrine develops a breakthrough in Intermodulation Distortion (IMD), which improved linearity and met 3GPP standards body requirements for GSM/WCDMA applications
  • 2012: Peregrine goes public on NASDAQ.

Along the way, Reedy shares several personal stories about his experiences being an entrepreneur.
