Part 1: Meet Ron “The Contrarian” Reedy

Peregrine’s co-founder and CTO Ron Reedy gave the following presentation at a San Diego IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) event in October 2013. In this video, which is part 1 of his talk, “Commercializing Silicon on Sapphire (SOS) & Changing an Industry,” the viewer meets Ron “The Contrarian” Reedy, champion of underdogs and leader of packs. He candidly shares how difficult it is to pioneer a new semiconductor technology. Between what the military spent on research and the money raised to commercialize the technology, Reedy estimates it cost $750 million dollars to get Peregrine where it is today. For aspiring entrepreneurs, Reedy shares his business rules to live by:

  • Capital comes with instructions. Listen to and trust the capitalist system.
  • Everything takes π (approximately 3.14) times longer than you think — and costs three times as much.
  • Information only has value when it’s in motion.
